Jeffers Pond Elementary School houses students in grades K-5 in a 2-story building constructed as a walk-out. A main north-south hallway separates the classroom sections from the office area and specialists’ rooms. The upper and lower level classroom areas each consist of a cluster of 3-5 classrooms grouped around a grade level resource area. Rooms for special services such as Synergy (gifted & talented), English as a Second Language (ESL), Special Education, Student Support, etc. are also integrated in the design of the building.
The specialist areas at Jeffers Pond include a full-size gym, an art room, general music room, band ensemble room, computer room, and a media center with a video production studio. Two-story windows with a view of the pond provide a lovely setting for the cafeteria and Kid’s Co. area. The cafeteria includes equipment enabling us to utilize a food waste program. Our Kid’s Company program offers before and after school childcare for students. A parent volunteer room includes space for parenting resources, an area to work on volunteer projects, and lockers for parents to secure their coats and valuables. A security system, including devices for lockdown procedures, is installed for the protection of students and staff. The environmental area next to Jeffers Pond provides access to ponds, a stream, prairie areas, forest areas, wetland, and multiple walking paths.

Instruction

Students at Jeffers Pond receive instruction from classroom teachers in language arts, math, social studies, science, and health. Students also receive one fifty-minute period of instruction per week in art, music, and media which are taught by specialist teachers. Two physical education instructors provide students with physical education instruction for two fifty-minute periods per week. The environmental education program is integrated into the other core subject areas. Kindergarten students at Jeffers Pond experience a full-day program, which is partially funded through tuition fees paid by parents. Another option for parents is to send their kindergarten-aged children to the half-day kindergarten program, which is held at Edgewood School.
